Being Environmentally Friendly

Increasingly producers and customers alike have become more aware of their responsibility to ensure all products we use are sourced legally and sustainable to produce. While certification is not possible in all areas of the world, wherever possible Empsons source timber from mills whose responsibility matches our own and on occasions we have withdrawn from trade in timbers where that is not possible.

Everyone must now be aware of the almost irreversible damage done to tropical rain forests by the demands for agricultural land and fuel wood. The forest ecosystem is a rich source of beautiful and useful timbers and, although selective, their extraction does give cause for concern . Nonetheless, good quality timber is a major earner of foreign currency of significant value to the economies of these, mainly less developed countries. A way must be found of ensuring the survival of the forests.
